Fire starting and basket weaving Fire starting and basket weaving are basic human survival skills for keeping warm and gathering resources. You'll be hearing from Perth's most passionate presenter, Steve Aldridge, from Wild Movement Perth. You'll be shown how to start a fire from friction and then given instructions on how to make a basket from wildcrafted resources.
Some one-on-one time After a demonstration on how to start fire by hand and a lesson on how to weave a basket you'll gather your materials and begin to create your own. You'll have five minutes of one-on-one time with each participant to get to know one another. All participants have a chance to meet. We want you to have the opportunity to find people with common interests, so that means you'll meet everyone attending.
Word on the street is that working side by side with your hands busy, takes the pressure off from that awkward first meeting feels.
Meet and mingle For our mid afternoon break you can work at sparking your own fire by friction. You'll also be able to brew yourself a cup of fresh herbal tea. By dinner we'll have a pot of farm fresh hearty vegetable soup to enjoy as you finish your basket and talk around the fire.
Leave a note You are welcome to exchange numbers of people you want to see again. We will also have a 'letter in a jar' system so you can write a note and discreetly pass on a message to someone in the group. We will email all messages to participants the following day of an event.
